About Fitness And Nutrition - Free Essay Example

I met with three different individuals whom were new to training and nutrition. I explained the type of research I was doing, and asked them if they would be comfortable to tell me 3 specific limiting factors they are facing/have faced within their fitness journey. The first individual (Mona)explained thatshe was not including enough vegetables within her diet;she turned to food to help them cope with their emotions;she wasnot completely sure how to plan out healthy balanced meals for herself as no one had ever shown her. I let Mona know that I would be happy to help her tackle these limiting factors taking it one step at a time. We started with the amount of vegetables she has during the day, and I suggested that she keep track of her food she eats during the day in a chart I provided for her. I let her know that would be a good way to start so we can visually see a record of what she eats on a daily basis. I told her we could meet after 3 days to see what her chart displayed on he r food choices. This record was also the suggestion for her to keep track of what food she eats as comfort since she stated she eats unhealthy to cope at times. After 3 days Mona and I met and we went over her food record. We discussed how it is important to have a fist of vegetable with each meal, a palm portion of protein with each meal, one cupped handful of carb foods with each meal, and a thumb of fat with most meals (Hatfield, 2018, p.599). We then discussed how this method will also help with her balancing her food groups as well. The last thing we covered was how she could improve on coping with her emotions by subbing an unhealthy food craving with an activity or hobbyshe would enjoy. She liked this idea as itshe felt it could take her mind off of her food, and mood. We discussed the importance of stress management and how it includes rest and recovery-a rested will is a stronger will (Hatfield, 2018, p.606). I let Mona know that I would be happy to continue to help her through this process as she appeared to open up to me about her limiting factors. I let her know that I would check back in with her in 3 days to discuss her progress. The second individual (Dianna) explained that she struggles with eating enough protein during her day as her job is very demanding. She tends to not sleep well, therefore only going on 4-5 hours a sleep a night. Third, she said that her meals she eats are do not make her feel full as she does feel that she has time to balance them out. Dianna is under a lot of stress running her own business, and her exercise time is one of her only escapes from her job. I asked her if she felt she could find the time to keep a diary of her foods she eats for a course of 3 days, and she agreed to do so. Before I left the meeting with her I told her we would meet back at the gym in 3 days and go over her food chart.Keep in mind Dianna is 5 3 and 140 pounds. 3 days went by and she met me back at the gym after work and I could see tha t her breakfast consisted of a rice crispy bar, and a glass of orange juice. Her lunch consisted of a pack of peanut butter crackers (6 cracker pack), and aPepsi max. I explained the importance of drinking water to Dianna, and she said that she knows it is just hard to drink a lot as she only likes it super cold. Dianna is super nice, but she is an older client and I could see she is set in her ways. I could see that she may be a tough one to get through too, but I was determined to try and coach her with some nutrition tips. She was open to listening to me as she said she knows she needs to eat better, and balance her meals. I asked her if she could try an experiment for one week starting out with a meal plan I provide and see if she feels any different with her energy levels. She agreed. Ididask her what her energy felt like on a day shehas worked all day, then worked out and she said about a 5 on a 1-10 scale. The plan included the recommended amount for women which was 1 palm portion or protein dense foods with each meal, 1 fist of vegetables with each meal, 1 cupped handful of carb dense foods with each meal, and an entire thumb of fat dense foods with most meals (Hatfield, 2018, p.599). I would also recommend to her that she shouldincrease her sleep time to 8 hours a night to see how she feels after a week experimenting. At the end of the period I would ask Dianna what her energy level would feel like to see if it had increased closer to the 10 on the scale stated above. I would go over her overall protein intake to see if she followed the recommended portions I suggested as well. The third individual (Dallas) I met with that was new to the exercise and training scene told me that he skips meals at times, then eats meals that are too large where he feels bloated. He will work straight through lunch some days, and then eat a big supper at night as he feels like he is starving. He went on to tell me that doing the work of eating healthy is hard at tim es as he is surrounded by his friends that like to go eat at places where the food is not so healthy. I did ask him if his friends are the type that can eat whatever and never gain weight, and he said they are and that he doesnt think that is fair as he has to work so hard to try and stay healthy. I explained that is a frustrating part of this lifestyle, anda person doeswant to go eat with friends as I could seeDallas was a sociable person. Dallas then told me that he does not include the recommended amount of vegetables in his day either, but he does try and make time to eat at least one serving a day. He loves eating green beans and asparagus on the grill. With Dallas I incorporated the same kind of plan like I did with Dianna. I had him take a chart I provided to him wherehe is to take a diary ofwhat he eats for 3 days. I explained to him the daily recommendations for balanced meals with each mea which included: 2 palm portions of protein, 2 fists of vegetables, 2 cupped handf uls of carbs, and 2 thumbs of fat dense foods (Hatfield, 2018, p.598).I wanted him to try and understand theimportance of not skipping meals as he may not get the nutrients his body needs. I told him I would check back with him in three days and see how he feels, and to see how his energy level improves. As with any client, I will make sure to let them know that this is just a recommendation on starting the process. I will not come across as a trainer that has high expectations, as I will want to meet the client where they currently are and slowly help them build confidence in overcoming limiting factors in their lifestyle fitness journey. I will encourage clients to look at how they feel after trying these methods, and see where they struggle and what we can tailor to help them meet their needs so they can feel like they are meeting a goal they have set. The book explained the confidence method(Hatfield, 2018, p.602) and how it incorporated a scale on replacing an unhealthy snac k with a healthy choice snack. It is better to have a client pick a decent method they can actually follow rather than a perfect method they quit after a few days (Hatfield, 2018, p.602). The individuals I chose let me use their name in this study. Hatfield, F. (2018). Fitness: The Complete Guide Official Text for ISSAs Certified Fitness Trainer Course. 9th ed. Carpinteria, CA: International Sports Sciences Association, pp.598, 599, 602.

Getting Strict Parents Create Sneaky Children By Kurt...

In today’s society, the phrase â€Å"strict parents create sneaky children† has become more and more popular. This idea of helicopter parenting is a problem in society, but also in jobs or any position where there is a person in charge of others. Society is always looking for ways to have complete control over a situation, but many say that with helicopter parenting comes the idea of rebellious children. Although â€Å"Harrison Bergeron† by Kurt Vonnegut Jr is about a government being too strict and controlling, it is still a great example of strict overseers trying to have complete control creating a sneaky society. â€Å"Harrison Bergeron† proves that when a person is put under such strict guidelines, it is only a matter of time before a rebellion is created. In this dystopian-styled story, the government wants all people to be equal by handicapping anyone with a gift or special ability – whether it be internal or external. George is one example who has to be handicapped by an ear-piece; ringing throughout the day – it prevents him from thinking too hard or for too long on anything, even while relaxing and watching TV at night. The ear piece symbolizes that even though it is meant to prevent society of thinking, George still has a few seconds to collect his thoughts and think clearly in between it ringing. As stated on page 193, â€Å"George was toying with the vague notion that maybe dancers shouldn’t be handicapped†, but his earpiece went off again and he forgot all about the idea

Rappaccinis Daughter Essays - Bereshit, Adam And Eve,

Rappaccini's Daughter In the literal sense, Nathaniel Hawthorn's Rappaccini's Daughter is the story about the rivalry between two scientists that ultimately causes the destruction of an innocent young woman. However, when the story is examined on a symbolic level, the reader sees that Rappaccini's Daughter is an allegorical reenactment of the original fall from innocence and purity in the Garden of Eden. Rappaccini's garden sets the stage of this allegory, while the characters of the story each represent the important figures from the Genesis account. Through the literary devices of poetic and descriptive diction, Nathaniel Hawthorne conveys the symbolism of these characters, as well as the setting. The story takes place in mid-nineteenth century in Padua, Italy and revolves around two major settings; the mansion of an old Paduan family, and Rappaccini's lush garden. The mansion is described as, "high and gloomy...the palace of a Paduan noble... desolate and ill-furnished..." This description establishes a dark mood throughout the story. Hawthorne writes, "One of the ancestors of this family...had been pictured by Dante as a partaker of the immortal agonies of his Inferno..." The allusion of Dante refers to The Divine Comedy and the Inferno describes the souls in Hell. Furthermore, Baglioni converses with Giovanni in this mansion chamber and tries to manipulate him in his attempt to destroy Rappaccini. In a sense, the dark and gloomy mansion symbolizes the domain of evil. The second major setting is the garden. The author uses poetic diction to describe Rappaccini's garden. Hawthorne writes, "There was one shrub in particular...that bore a profusion of purple blossoms, each of which had the luster and richness of a gem...seemed enough to illuminate the garden, even had there been no sunshine...some crept serpentlike along the ground or climbed on high..." In this passage, the author depicts the liveliness and beauty of the garden in an almost fantasy-like way, a fantasy too good to be true and destined to end tragically. Hawthorne directly compares this beautiful garden to Eden when he writes, "Was this garden, then the Eden of the present world?" Thus, Rappaccini's garden symbolizes the setting of the initial fall of man. In Rappaccini's Daughter, the original sinners, Adam and Eve, are represented by Giovanni Guasconti and Beatrice Rappaccini. Giovanni symbolizes Adam in the sense that he is shallow and insincere. When Giovanni first sees Beatrice, he is love struck. Hawthorne uses poetic diction when he writes, "...the impression which the fair stranger made upon him was as if here were another flower...as beautiful as they, more beautiful than the richest of them." This passage describes Giovanni's feelings towards the beautiful Beatrice. However, later we see that Giovanni's love was actually lust when the student discovers that he has been infected by Beatrice. The author writes, "Giovanni's rage broke forth from his sullen gloom like a lightning flash out of a dark cloud. 'Accursed one!' cried he, with venomous scorn and anger" Giovanni becomes enraged and blames Beatrice of this accidental infection. Similarly, Adam blames Eve of their disobedience when he is confronted by God. Adam does not show compassion towards his wife but instead, like Giovanni, lashes out with anger against Eve. Hawthorne's critical and unsympathetic tones toward Giovanni are evident when he uses descriptive diction to explain him. Hawthorne writes, "...his spirit was incapable of sustaining itself at the height to which the early enthusiasm of passion had exalted it; he fell down groveling among earthly doubts, and defiled there with the pure whiteness of Beatrice's image." In this passage, Hawthorne shows that Giovanni's love was actually lust and his tone toward Giovanni is critical. In contrast, Hawthorne portrays sympathetic and reverent tones towards Beatrice. The author uses poetic diction to describe the beautiful young woman. He writes, "...arrayed with as much richness of taste as the most splendid of the flowers...bloom so deep and vivid that one shade more would have been too much...redundant with life, health, and energy..." Beatrice is described as a part of nature and vivacious. She has been isolated from the world and the world she lives in only consists of the garden. She has a child like innocence and is very na?ve. She even states, "I dreamed only to love thee and be with thee a little time, and so let thee pass away, leaving but thine image in mine heart." This passage shows the purity of her love for Giovanni. Thus, Beatrice symbolizes the innocence of Eve and Giovanni symbolizes the pride and shallowness of Adam. In Rappiccini's Daughter, the major conflict is between the famous doctor of Italy, Giacomo Rappaccini, and

My Struggle through High School Essay Example

My Struggle through High School Essay Example My Struggle through High School Essay My Struggle through High School Essay Essay Topic: High School Middle School Name: Course: Lecturer: Date: My Struggle through High School I have always been ambitious in everything that I do. This has enabled me to work with dedication and diligence. Other than the occasional instances of sickness, my school years in elementary and all through middle school were flawless, as I swayed with the motions of school life. However, this was to change during my final years in junior high when I began noticing changes in my health. I had noticed a small lump in my armpit, but I had not thought much about it. It was only after some several months had passed that I felt an intense pain and I decided to have it examined. By this time, I had already started high school. The first visit to the doctor did not reveal much. I had to take some medical tests and the biopsy revealed that I had cancer. I could not believe it at first, for I could not understand how I could get cancer at my age. This denial made me reluctant in starting treatment, as I sought the second and third opinion concerning the diagnosis. All the doctors at different health centers confirmed the diagnosis. I finally yielded to the pressure from my family and healthcare providers and I began the cancer treatments last year. I had to go to the hospital many times, and the treatments I received made me tired and weak. My situation was worse because of my weak immune system. I missed school for many days. The pain I felt was immeasurable and I could not compare it to anything I have ever experienced. It was during this time that I realized the value and benefits of having genuine friends. They would visit me often at home, and they would make the time to study with me during the weekends. I was determined to finish high school and graduate at the same time with them, and I put a lot of dedication in my studies at home. I did not attend classes, and I missed the opportunity of learning, as the others were learning. Although I took the time to study on my own, I knew that I could not compare this with the classroom experience. I did not have the time to go to the library or to use the learning resources that were available to the other students. All these struggles and challenges affected my experience through school. Since I began the treatments, I have noticed great improvements in my health. The first few months in my final year were tough, as I had to catch up with my classmates. My dedication finally paid off. I am in the top high school in Baltimore, and securing a good grade is a reflection of the hard work and dedication that I put because there is much competition. My experience with cancer and the struggles I faced made me realize that a person can accomplish anything if he or she determines to work with diligence and dedication. It made me resolve to work harder to fulfill my life’s dreams. This has led me to apply to this institution, because I know that it represents a beginning for me to accomplish the objectives I have set. The institution is renowned for its top quality education, and a dedicated faculty, something that I identify with and appreciate.

No title Case Study Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 500 words

No title - Case Study Example Capital investment are money used to buy long-term assets like switches that direct telephone calls making it easier to spread the cost for several years hence hiding the expenses incurred for a given period. During 2001 and the first quarter of 2002, the company counted as capital investments $3.8 billion that it spent on everyday expenses. This makes a difference because capital investments are treated differently from other expenses for accounting purposes. Capital spending is money used to buy long-lasting assets, like fiber-optic cables or switches that direct telephone calls, so the cost is spread out over several years. For example, if WorldCom spent $10 million on switches it expected to last 10 years, it would book a $1 million expense for 10 years. In contrast, if it spent $10 million on office space, it has to count all of that expense in the period in which it occurred. The company says the expenses that were counted as capital expenditures involve "line costs," which are fees WorldCom pays to other telecom players for the right to access their networks. Shifting Revue into Future - This accounting principle implies that the revenues that were to be earned in the current account period are deferred to a future date. Although not common in practice, it is often undertaken by some corporations and accounting companies. It is argued that future shifting of revenue gives the company future revenue stability. Shifting Expenses into the Present – under this accounting approach, a company may opt to defer some of its future expenses. The company, therefore, can shift its current revenue to the coming accounting period in case of financial challenges during the current accounting period. Shifts to operating cash increases – this principle is based on the idea that under certain circumstances, it would be important to shift the company’s operating cash flows. The increases in the cash flows would therefore impact on the future operations. Misuse of

Legalization of birth control fight in the early 1900s Term Paper

Legalization of birth control fight in the early 1900s - Term Paper Example Margaret was the pioneer in the movement of birth control. This was the time when she voiced her opinions on the contraception and their advantages when they had become illegal. Early in the twentieth century, there was a heavy toll of sickness and premature deaths noticed among the working class women who got pregnant and were made to work in the poor working conditions in the working neighborhood of New York State. Margaret raised her voice against the illegalization of contraception and said that a step should be taken for the prevention of repeated pregnancies (Tobin 1901-1937) . She worked under Havelock Ellis after travelling to Europe and got extensive training on the human sexuality. After she returned to United States, she launched a program where she gave better access to family planning information to the women who were expecting babies and later starting mailing the birth control pamphlets to her clients. Since she was using U.S mail, therefore in the year 1916, she got a rrested as well as her clinic which gave assistance on birth control measures was located in Brooklyn. With her controversial books and pamphlets, she started off her program on educating women on family planning. She wrote many of the books and pamphlets and one of them was What Every Girl Should Know (1913). This was a detailed book which gave answers to the unasked questions such as girlhood, puberty, sexual impulse, reproduction and the diseases which can be potentially transferred. She gave very vague but never clear ideas that what can be done to prevent an unwanted pregnancy. However, she became quite a controversial lady in the eyes of the medical leaders and the nursing professionals when she raised her voice on a taboo topic such as the masturbation. But since she had an enlightened attitude, therefore she carried on with her and her concentration. In the year 1923, she successfully opened a family planning clinician New York and later on arranged conferences which were he ld on the international and national level, discussing the family planning issues. National Committee on Federal Legislation for Birth was found by her and she became the President of the committee until the breakup of the committee after the federal birth control legislation enactment in 1937 (Sanger n.p.). She was a brave woman who inspired women all over the work and she discussed the need of birth control through a number of conferences held in many parts of the world. She travelled to Africa, Europe to spread more awareness on the issue and established many clinics world wide as well. For centuries, women have fought in the society for their own rights. Anything that they have wanted to themselves, they always had to earn it through fight and perseverance. Just like Margaret Sanger, history show many women who have stood up for the rights of the women and these social activists made innumerable contribution to the women history. Right over birth control is not the only issue th at they had to deal with, infact, right to vote, and right to work with equal opportunities were few of the many issues for which they fought and stood up against for. It is very important to realize that a woman has a right over her body and by right over it is meant, that she should have the right to decided that when does she want a baby in her life. Until the year 1914, women of
